Walkers, Joggers, ATV Users in Town Get Council’s Attention
A meeting of Town of Provost councillors was held on April 14 when concerns were expressed to council about the operation of all terrain vehicles on vacant land in town and the damages being done. Council directed that advertisements be placed in the newspaper asking operators to obtain landowners’ permission before riding on the land and warning “that if the irresponsibility continues that council may consider passage of a bylaw to ban all off road vehicles from lands in the Town of Provost.”

Concerns were also expressed to council over the way walkers and joggers have been using the streets and highways. Because some walk two or three abreast, and do not walk facing traffic and therefore cannot see approaching vehicles is a concern. Council directed an advertisement be placed in the newspaper outlining the requirements of the Traffic Safety Act that walkers and joggers need to follow.

Council discussed the state of the “elevator road” and the town administrator will continue to ask the CPR to provide proper maintenance of this road.

Council approved the contract with Wilf Nett to become fire marshall and directed a letter be issued to the Provost Fire Department asking they provide a recommendation as to who should be appointed the new fire chief and deputy fire chief. Nett has been the Provost fire chief since 1972 and has been a member of the volunteer fire brigade for the last 49 years.

Council approved the administrator to negotiate a contract with Harold Reschny to provide maintenance services at the Legion Hall.Rental rates for Legion Hall were approved.
The Provost Lions Club request to purchase and install a small building near the new outdoor ice rink to be used as a skate changing room was approved.

Council approved an agreement with a tax payer to allow the past due taxes to be paid over a specified period and to delay any tax sale as long as the payments are made as agreed.

The 2005 Provost Road Race to be held June 12 was approved.

Council approved the 2005 Assessment Services contract with Wainwright Assessment Group Ltd.

Council approved the payment of the invoice from East Central E 9-1-1 but instructed a letter be issued to East Central E 9-1-1 that the payment is made under protest, and a letter be issued to the M. D. of Provost that the town will be requesting they reimburse the town for extra payment that had to be made due to their actions in this matter.
