This view of gigantic hills appearing to the south west of Provost aren’t really there. This picture, taken on the morning of January 17 from atop the hill a few miles east of town appears to be a mirage that can be seen at rare times. It seems that weather plays a big part in the illusion; after a particularly cold spell and then a warming sometimes the image can be seen. Some believe that it is an image of the Neutral Hills towering skywards. According to one expert, the more common type of mirage is called inferior mirage. It happens when a refraction of light passes through the atmosphere layers with varying qualities. Distance objects may seem to be raised above or below their normal locality. These objects may be seen as irregular and fantastic shapes. © Provost News Photo. Print version in January 19 Edition of The Provost News. Want to Subscribe to The Provost News? Click here.
Town Wants Camrose for 911 Call Answering
and Dispatch Service—M.D. Looking at Options

The Town of Provost says that since they had received information that a 911 service in Wainwright may be discontinued, they have investigated a different provider.

Chief administrative officer of the Town of Provost, Terry Hurlbut told The News that the Provost fire and ambulance service operators want to negotiate an arrangement with the Camrose Police Service.

There could be two services available from Camrose: one is a 911 call answering service while the other one is an emergency dispatch service. The town “is adamant” and is willing to use Camrose’s service to “start tomorrow” if they could adds Hurlbut.

Currently Provost is being served by a Wainwright group but Hurlbut says the last written information the Town of Provost received from them stated that the Wainwright operation would operate until March 31, 2005.
Meanwhile the M.D. 52 administrator, Iris Larson told The News that they have been informed by the Wainwright 911 group that they will try to operate beyond the March 31 date.

The M.D. had earlier made a decision to change their 911 service provider from Wainwright, but a motion to deal with a Camrose 911 service was later rescinded.

Larson says there has been “lots of discussion” by M.D. councillors over what service to use.
