Expansion at Hillcrest Taking Shape
Construction of an approximately $4 million expansion at Hillcrest Lodge is underway.

The addition of 11 new rooms and a kitchen and dining room renovation will take approximately nine months to finish.

Five of the new rooms will be one bedroom suites that will be walled off and are designed for couples. Those suites will be made larger than the other six regular living units to be built.

Hillcrest Lodge assistant manager Annette Gregory said workmen began moving dirt the second week in July.

The kitchen and dining room will each be made approximately one third larger than they are now, in anticipation of a further three story expansion that may happen some time further in the future.

In April it was estimated that $2 million to $2.5 million would be spent on the project (see PN April 19) but the estimate is now in the $4 million range with about $550,000 supplied from the province and the rest of the money coming from local taxes over a period of time.
