Benoit Re-elected M.P.
• Captures 77% of Vote
There were four candidates running in the October 14 federal election from this constituency but Conservative Leon Benoit was again re-elected by a wide margin with a tally of 25,730 votes.

Second place was Ray Stone for the New Democratic Party with 3,072 votes. Third was William Munsey for the Green Party who received 2,790 votes. Adam Campbell for the Liberals meanwhile had 1,697 votes late Tuesday night at press time with 55 polls not reporting.

Nationally the Conservative Party was re-elected to govern the nation with 144 ridings won (minority government) while the Liberals had 75 MPs elected, the Bloc 50; the NDP 37 and the Greens zero.

In January 2006, Benoit won this riding over NDP candidate Len Legault of the Ribstone-Chauvin area after Benoit received close to 75 per cent of the vote. In the previous election, Benoit was victorious over Liberal Duff Stewart by more than 28,410 votes.
