Highway 13 Speed May be Lowered on East Side
Provost’s town council looked at a variety of business at its December 21 meeting including applying to Alberta Transportation to extend the 70 kilometer per hour speed limit on Highway 13 from the Highway 899 south intersection to the town’s east boundary.

That change would see another 0.8 km of Highway 13 lowered from 100 kph to 70 kph. The stretch of Highway 13 from west of Provost to the existing restricted area near the east side of Provost is approximately 2.2 km. The town boundary on the east edge of town begins at a fence line east of the new Battle River Implements building.

Currently there is no approach from the far east side of town onto Highway 13; motorists have to drive to Highway 899 and then onto Highway 13 to travel east on the main highway.

Council also authorized the following:

To hear one delegation.

To write a letter to  the Minister of Alberta Finance and Enterprise, Ted Morton endorsing the province to continue to support the Battle River Alliance for Economic Development (BRAED) and other Regional Economic Development Alliances.

To table the 2011 Provost Municipal Library Board budget.

Council however denied a  Provost Municipal Library board’s request for renovations which would have seen the elimination of the men’s washroom so more space could be used to sort books. The building code states that there has to be a separate “water closet” for each sex.
The 2011 M.D. No. 52 Waste Management budget and requisition was tabled for more information.

A one time payment for access to the water wells was approved.
